It’s the sweltering summer of 1989: as radios around the world crackle with songs by Depeche Mode and Roxette, the cracks in the Berlin Wall grow deeper. In late spring, TSR has unleashed the highly anticipated second edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, sporting a dazzling blue logo that encapsulates the questionable style of the '80s. In a small town in northern California, Lakeport, a handful of sweaty nerds from the Skillcrusher Gaming Club are organizing a tournament to test the new set of rules. To host this orgy of dice, marginalization, and human affliction, they have taken over the crumbling gymnasium of Mount Dine High School and summoned the worst elements of Lake County. Will Steve “Mordred” d’Onofrio, Eugene Libowitz, Roy, Rebecca Mitchell, and their friend Butch manage to pull off the memorable tournament they’ve been announcing for months? “AD&D 1989 Summer Tournament” is a genuine and nostalgic tournament for AD&D 2nd edition (2.0, to be absolutely precise!).
